Founder of our educational philosophy, which still bears her name today, Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was the first woman ever granted a degree in medicine by an Italian University. Through her extensive work with children, she became interested in the effects of educational concepts on the total development of the child. Her comprehensive research resulted in the concept of “whole child education”, a method in which the "whole child" is educated - Mind, Body and Spirit. This is achieved through the use of self-correcting, manipulative materials. Today, Dr. Montessori’s Method is used throughout the world to enhance the learning experiences of children everywhere.
Why Montessori?
Montessori principles and materials have been incorporated into schools of many types and levels from infancy through college. Children in the Montessori classroom work in a carefully prepared environment that stimulates learning and discovery in a happy, independent manner. Each child following his/her own time clock and can progress as rapidly as individual ability allows. The Montessori philosophy provides a success oriented learning environment that actually motivates learning!
Our Philosophy for Education
Through offering the Montessori experience to the child, (s)he is introduced to the joy of learning and a framework is provided for creative activity. Our goal is to treat each child on an individual basis, producing self-discipline and a life long love of learning. While nurturing in a loving environment, the teacher’s goal is to assist the child towards independence. Activities are based on the child’s ability and interests.
